Tournament Secretary HEATHER SCHOFIELD confirmed that following a visit by members of the Tournament Executive on Saturday 6th March, HOLSWORTHY AFC have been formally invited to act as a HOST VENUE for the JOMA 2010 South West Challenge Cup this July.
During detailed discussions with the Club Chairman BARRY PARRISH and members of his Committee, a tour of the Club and Ground facilities and further consideration of the planned Summer maintenance programme at UPCOTT FIELD, agreement was reached that subject to the satisfactory completion of the work schedule, HOLSWORTHY AFC would host at least one and possibly more of the JOMA 2010 Tournament fixtures.
This welcome development means that hundreds of local football supporters will now be able to see a quality pre-season match take place, within comfortable travelling distance of Holsworthy. The Club enjoys good local support and in very recent history, hosted Exeter City in a pre-season friendly which drew 800 spectators for the game.
HEATHER COMMENTED:
Everyone seems genuinely pleased that this decision extends the number of North Devon based Clubs who can directly benefit from the Tournament; the key is as always in the amount of work required to bring the ground up to an acceptable standard for the visit of professional League Clubs, balanced against the needs for Safely stewarding and protecting the welfare of spectators and Players.
The reports I have had back underline just how enthusiastic are the Clubs’ Committee to stage a game for the benefit of the local Community; The Chairman went out of his way to listen and respond positively to the advice and suggestions of the Executive.
TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR MIKE BRADSHAW added:
‘ What really impressed me was the extent of the support team that BARRY has put in place at UPCOTT FIELD; for a small Club they have the right foundations on which to build success in the future and I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever, that they will go out of their way to put on an absolutely superb fixture which they and ourselves will be very proud of. If the local supporters, local businesses and sponsors get behind them; we could all be in for a remarkable and memorable fixture in the heart of North Devon.

BARNSTAPLE TOWN FC ENTERS THE 2010

JOMA 2010 SOUTH WEST CHALLENGE CUP.
Immediately following BARNSTAPLE TOWN’S home victory over visitors SHERBORNE TOWN on Saturday, it was confirmed that discussions had been successfully concluded and agreement reached for BARNSTAPLE TOWN FC, to enter the 2010 Challenge Cup competition as both a HOST GROUND and as a Competition squad entry.

Club Chairman STEVE JAMES and Executive member PETER WOODHAMS met with Tournament Executives to review their Club participation in last years’ event and to lay the ground for this summers’ Competition; building on the major development work completed in time for the previous 2009 competition, organisers were encouraged to learn at first-hand the plans now in hand for the completion of hard-standing spectator areas around the ground and subject to Local Authority support, the completion of fencing to provide a secure ground perimeter.
If completed on schedule, this together with substantial work already completed to the Player Changing Rooms and the Social/Bar hospitality areas, the new work will result in a very impressive setting for the games scheduled to take place at MILL ROAD.

TOURNAMENT SECRETARY, HEATHER SCHOFIELD, confirming the announcement said:
I understand discussions went well and in common with the other North Devon sides, BARNSTAPLE TOWN wanted to ensure that the correct number of games were played ensuring that the re-seeding of the pitch and it’s preparation for the domestic season, were not compromised. I know they also looked very closely at post-match catering which has been an issue where visiting Clubs either through disappointment at the result or because of time pressures, have failed to spend time with sponsors at after-match hospitality functions. All Clubs will be firmly reminded of their obligations to attend if only to express their appreciation of the hard-work that has gone into organising and arranging the event. We are on the case!
Year on year, all three of the North Devon host clubs have now improved facilities for visiting spectators and their own supporters; not only does the South West Challenge Cup benefit but so does the remaining domestic season at each Club. It is rapidly becoming a fact that visiting Clubs are surprised and delighted at what is offered to them, on and off the pitch. I am 100% truthful when I tell you that, more than one visiting Club said to me that some of our grounds and their facilities are better than their own. What a tribute to everyone concerned. And to end on another positive, YES we already have requests from Clubs to return once again for the 2010 Competition.

Keela have done it again

Keela have done it again. We are all in for a very different after-dinner speaker and his appeal to all our local refereeing match officials and players, might just see us having to squeeze everyone in real tight. Immediately following their 3-1 victory over Radstock Town, ILFRACOMBE TOWN Chairman ALLAN DAY confirmed that his club will enter this years’ South West Challenge pre-season Tournament.

Tournament Secretary HEATHER SCHOFIELD received the news following a visit to Marlborough Park by members of the Tournament Executive, who met with all three members of the Club management team prior to their home match. This announcement confirms that ILFRACOMBE TOWN will feature in the Tournament as both a Competition team and a Tournament host venue.
At this early stage in the overall planning of the Tournament, organisers are at pains to ensure that the host Club venues, training grounds and Competition teams are identified as soon as possible and that final arrangements are firmed up, nearer to the end of their domestic league commitments.
The decision means that both teams currently heading the TOOLSTATION WESTERN PREMIER DIVISION, BIDEFORD AFC and ILFRACOMBE TOWN, are now declared competition teams and match venues for the 2010 Tournament.

TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR MIKE BRADSHAW commented:
What a fantastic advert for North Devon football to have the two top sides of the Premier Division declaring their intention to join the Tournament before the end of the domestic season; if these teams keep going as I think they will, we could end up having the League Champions and the Runners-up competing in the pre-season Tournament.
These are very early days in the overall Planning process, but I want to warmly welcome ILFRACOMBE back to the Competition and say how impressed I am at the progress this Club is making under the influence of Manager BARRY YEO; we have addressed a few issues from last year concerning kick-off times and competition structure and everyone now seems satisfied that we can build on their very creditable performances last year.

TOURNAMENT SECRETARY HEATHER SCHOFIELD said:
There are a few loose-ends to tie up concerning the number of games to be played at Marlborough Park, but that remains a job for nearer the Tournament; the confirmed entry of ILFRACOMBE is another cornerstone for the Competition. Since actual confirmation of the Tournament, life has become very hectic indeed with the Tournament website taking over 100 requests a day; I wont spoil anyone’s surprise, but we are getting enquiries from Football League Clubs that are making me feel we are going to have some very serious clubs competing for the 2010 Trophy.

More to Golfing Equipment Than Just Clubs & Balls

When you think of golf equipment, what immediately comes to mind? Chances are, you immediately thought of golf clubs and golf balls. However, there are several other pieces of golf equipment that are important to your game and should not be overlooked.

In this brief article, I’ll be covering some of these golf equipment items and hopefully by the time you’re done reading this, you’ll have learned a thing or two that will better prepare you for your next golf outing.
<img src='http://static0.shopify.com/s/files/1/0023/3322/files/Golf_Shoes.jpg.jpg?1234871662' alt='Golf shoes'align="right"/>
Golf markers are an important item that every golfer should have in his or her golf bag. Golf markers are used to mark ball placement on the green, and are a must have. According to official golf rules, the player furthest from the cup putts first. As a result, other players simply pick up their golf balls and leave a marker behind.

A golf score keeper is another important piece of golf equipment that shouldn’t be overlooked. Each stroke of your game should be recorded with a score keeper. There are many different types of golf scorekeepers, including some that can be attached right to your golf bag for easy access.

Last but not least, it’s important not to forget about your hat and golf shoes. A hat, cap, or visor will protect you from the sun and also help to improve vision. Golf shoes provide comfort on the course and safety from slippage.

Hopefully this short article has given you some golf equipment ideas that will come in handy the next time you make your way to the course.

By buying the right cricket equipment you can ensure that you play safely, while also making the most of your cricketing talent.

Although people generally think of cricket equipment as mainly being centered on a cricket ball and ball, there are plenty of other pieces of equipment that are absolutely vital if you want to play the game successfully and safely.

Batsmen, for example, need to be wearing the appropriate selection of padding, guards and helmets if they are to avoid serious injury when faced with a leather cricket ball travelling at high speed.

The wicketkeeper is another position that involves a high potential for danger – again, getting the right equipment is important.

Taking the appropriate equipment for a batsman first, it’s very important that you select the correct gloves, padding, protectors, helmet and bat to play the game.

You need to find a bat that is the right weight for you. They can vary quite considerably in weight – some professional cricketers use heavy bats, while others seek a more lightweight alternative.

The best way to find a bat that’s right for you is to hold a selection and see what feels the most comfortable. You’ll need to make sure that the bat is not so heavy that it restricts your play.

With gloves, pads, protection and helmets, you need to consider safety. Its important that you cover all areas of the body that might be damaged but also ensure that you are not restricting your movement. If you suffer in warmer conditions, then consider materials that will offer a cooler experience.

For wicketkeepers and those fielding close to the wicket, many of the requirements will be the same.

Always look for equipment that provides protection but that is also comfortable to wear.

That is why you need the right shoe for the right sport that you are playing so that you don’t hurt you feet or break any bones while playing. The sport that I am talking about happens to be golf and when you are golfing you know that the right golf shoe is everything when you are golfing. You do not want to over step or miss step when you are golfing so that is why it is important that you get golf shoes when you are going to be playing a game of golf.

You need to think about how much that you really play the sport. If you only play a little bit then you are not going to need that good of a pair of golf shoes but on the other hand if you play the game of golf a good bit then you might want to consider getting a high dollar or good pair of golf shoes to golf with. The downside to not buying golf shoes is that you are not going to have the ability that you will when you wear golf shoes. You are not going to be able to stick to the green you are golfing from because you are going to be wearing some off the wall brand.
<img src='http://static2.shopify.com/s/files/1/0023/3322/files/golfshoe2.jpg?1234872271' alt='Golf Shoes'align="right" />
The main point that I am trying to get across here is that if you play the game of golf a good bit and you don’t have a pair of golf shoes then you need to take the time and the money to go get yourself a pair of golfing shoes. The first time you put them on you will know why they are so important to the whole game of golf. They make your feet stick to the grass when you play so you don’t lose your swing and you will not over step or under step anymore when you are trying to get that perfect swing down.

If you do not have pair of golf shoes you should make sure that you contact the golf course that you plan to play on because now days it is mandatory that you own or wear a pair of golf shoes so that you do not mess up their golf course. So if you do not have a good pair of golf shoes then you need to take the time to go get a pair before you play on the green.

If you want to take your time while you look for your pair of golf shoes that is fine but you need to buy a pair quick so that you can go play. Remember that some golf courses require you to own a pair of golfing shoes because they want to protect their golf course so that means if you do not already have a pair just bring a pair that you can find or buy before you go.

Many people make the mistake of assuming that all boots are alike when that is definitely not the case. The playing surface, weather conditions, level of comfort and the position you play should all be taken into consideration when deciding on your soccer footwear.

Wearing the right football boots is essential as this allows you to concentrate on your performance safe in the knowledge that your soccer footwear will not let you down when you need it most. An expensive pair of football boots with state of the art design will enable you to make the most of your skills although they will not make you a better player overnight.

The surface that you are going to be playing on should have a huge bearing on choosing the suitability of your football boots. For example if you are playing on a wet pitch or a surface that has medium length grass then you should avoid boots that have blades or cleats. Hard pitches where the grass has worn away can also be problematic. Short studs and cleats are the best option for this kind of surface. Blades should be avoided as they would quickly be worn down on the areas where no grass is present.

Artificial playing surfaces such as Astroturf require footwear with cleats or short blades. Boots that have long blades could cause serious injury when running, twisting or turning sharply. This is because the long blades have a tendency to stick in the surface resulting in varying degrees of damage to both the ankle and knee areas when you move.

Another factor that should be considered when choosing new football boots is the position that you play. Strikers and wingers usually prefer a lightweight shoe that will let them accelerate quickly and in some cases this means using blades. For a long time the famous Predator boot by Adidas was popular among midfielders especially those who shoot from distance. For defenders, a good grip is important and this is the main attribute they will look for when choosing their footwear.

An important consideration when buying football boots is the level of comfort they provide you with. Many football boots come in a wider fitting to cater for those with bigger sized feet. It is important to remember that you will be wearing them for 90 minutes so the soccer footwear needs to be a good fit and be comfortable to wear for long periods. This advice should ensure that you are wearing the right football boot in relation to your needs.
