JOMA 2010 SOUTHWEST CHALLENGE CUP TOURNAMENT:

BIDEFORD TOWN COUNCIL THROW THEIR WEIGHT BEHIND JOMA 2010 TOURNAMENT.

TOURNAMENT ORGANISERS EXPRESS SURPRISE & DELIGHT AT DECISION.

Following a full meeting of the JOMA 2010 Tournament Executive last Friday, the following announcement has been issued:

‘ The Tournament Executive wish to place on record their delight at a decision made by BIDEFORD TOWN COUNCIL to support the JOMA 2010 Challenge Cup featuring teams from across North Devon and the UK professional Leagues. Following a detailed submission to the Town Mayor, approval was given to a package of support for the forthcoming Tournament which serves to underline, the importance of this Tournament to local business and the wider Community.

The support package has 3 core elements which, taken collectively, afford the Tournament organisers the opportunity of promoting the town as well as forging a closer link with the fortunes of BIDEFORD AFC, following their dramatic climax to the football season winning both the WESTERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP and the DEVON BOWL.

In essence, the package comprises:

BIDEFORD TOWN COUNCIL hosting and sponsoring one of the key Tournament matches to be staged at the Sports Ground, Bideford.

BIDEFORD TOWN COUNCIL hosting a Luncheon reception for the Chief Executives/Chairmen and Managers/sponsors of visiting teams.

BIDEFORD TOWN COUNCIL contributing to the cost of producing Stewarding, Safety and Community workers protective apparel, complying with Health & Safety criteria, to be followed throughout the programme.

Tournament Director MICHAEL BRADSHAW commented:

I want to thank Andy Powell and his colleagues at BIDEFORD TOWN COUNCIL for a magnificent response to our submission; we explained very carefully what we felt this Tournament brought to North Devon and to BIDEFORD in particular. The publicity, the expenditure and the returns for business and the sporting community have genuinely put BIDEFORD on the map at a time when other regions are faltering. We felt that now was precisely the time to keep that pressure on, especially as BIDEFORD AFC have swept the board with trophies this season and been accepted for promotion to the ZAMARETTO League. This support by our own Council opens a new chapter as far as I am concerned.....everyone working together and everyone benefitting from working together!
